Retirement Income Planning in Carson That Holds Up for Decades
We help you turn savings into income you can count on after the paychecks stop. We compare annuities and cash value life insurance on what they cost now, what they pay over twenty or thirty years, and the fees and limits that come with them.
What retirement income planning looks like with us
Most clients we meet in Carson, Torrance and Long Beach have some mix of Social Security, a workplace plan and savings, plus one question: will it last? Our part of the answer is the insurance side. That means annuities that can turn a lump sum into regular income, and permanent life insurance that can build cash value and still leave something for a beneficiary.
A product that looks cheap at the start can cost more over time through surrender charges, rider fees or income that never rises with prices. One that looks expensive can be the better buy if it pays reliably for thirty years. We lay them side by side so you see the long view before you sign anything.
We are not your tax preparer or investment manager. When a decision touches taxes or investment accounts, we say so, and we are glad to work alongside the professionals you already use.
What your plan covers
- Income gap review
- We add up the income you expect, from Social Security, a pension or part-time work, and compare it with what you spend each month. The difference is what the plan has to fill.
- Annuity comparisons in writing
- Fixed, fixed indexed and income annuities behave very differently. For each option we show the projected payout, the surrender period and the yearly cost of any income rider.
- A look at policies you already own
- If you have whole life or universal life, we check the cash value, any loans against it and what keeping it costs each year. Sometimes the best move is to leave it alone.
- Pension payout choices
- If your employer offers a single-life or joint-and-survivor pension, we run the numbers on taking the higher payout and using life insurance to protect a spouse, and the numbers on not doing that.
- Beneficiary check
- We confirm the beneficiaries on every policy and annuity match your wishes today, not the ones you named twenty years ago.
- Planning for a long life
- We plan for income to last into your nineties and show what rising prices do to that income over time.
When it makes sense to start this conversation
Your last paycheck is under ten years out
In this stretch, decisions about pensions, annuities and when to claim Social Security begin to set in place. Starting early keeps more doors open.
Your savings sit in one account
A large balance with no plan to draw it down can run short, or get spent so cautiously you never enjoy it.
You worry about outliving your money
If long life runs in your family, income that continues for as long as you live deserves a serious look.
An old policy you no longer understand
A policy bought decades ago may have cash value, a loan against it or rising costs nobody has checked in years.
A spouse depends on your pension
If your pension stops when you die, your spouse's income needs its own plan.
How we build your plan
- 1
A first conversation by phone
Tell us when you hope to stop working, what you have saved and what keeps you up at night. We listen and ask questions before we suggest anything.
- 2
Gathering the paperwork
We go over statements, pension estimates and any policies you own. We can meet at your business or walk through it all by phone.
- 3
Options side by side
You get two or three options in writing, each with its up-front cost, yearly fees, surrender schedule and projected income over time. You see what each choice gives up as well as what it gives.
- 4
Application and contract review
Once you choose, we handle the application with the insurer. When the contract arrives, we read through it with you during the free-look period so nothing catches you off guard.
- 5
Check-ins as life changes
Your health, income and family will change. We revisit the plan with you when they do.

What affects the cost of a retirement income plan
What you pay depends on the products you choose and how they are built. We show every fee and charge before you decide, so you can weigh cost today against income for years to come.
- Your age and timeline
- Starting income earlier or later changes how much each dollar pays. Waiting can raise the payout but shortens the years you collect it.
- Riders and features
- Income riders, inflation adjustments and joint-life options add value and add cost. We show what each one adds or takes away over twenty years.
- Surrender periods
- Many annuities charge a fee for larger withdrawals in the early years. Agreeing to keep your money in place longer may earn a higher credited rate, though it makes that money harder to reach if plans change.
- Health, if new coverage is involved
- When the plan includes a new life insurance policy, your age and health set the premium.
- How much you commit
- The share of savings you place in a product affects both your income and how much stays available for surprises.
What clients ask us about retirement income
Something not covered here? (310) 947-8605
Is an annuity a must for a comfortable retirement?
Not at all. Many people stop working and do fine without one. An annuity earns its place when you want a portion of your income to keep coming for life, however long that turns out to be. If it does not fit your situation, we will say so plainly.
Can I get money out of an annuity if I need it?
Usually some, yes. Most contracts allow a set percentage each year without a charge, while larger withdrawals during the surrender period carry a fee. We show the exact schedule for any contract before you buy it.
Should I cash out my old whole life policy?
Not before we look at it together. Cash value, outstanding loans, the coverage your family would lose and possible taxes all matter. Keeping it, reducing it or drawing income from it can work out better than surrendering it.
How does this fit with Social Security?
For most clients Social Security is the base of retirement income. We factor in your estimated benefit and claiming age when we size the income gap, and we point you to the Social Security Administration for your official figures.
Will you manage my investments?
No. Our work is insurance products, meaning annuities and life insurance. If you have a financial advisor or tax professional, we are happy to coordinate with them so the pieces fit.
